The British Federation of Women Graduates scholarships are for women who will be in their third year of doctoral studies or part time equivalent at the time when the awards are given out (the autumn of each year). BFWG Scholarships (Academic Awards) are awarded in competition on the basis of overall academic excellence.
The awards are given on the basis of evidence of academic excellence as shown on the application form, referee reports and, for those shortlisted, presentation of research to a panel of academics.
Note: there is a £20 administration fee for submitting an application
Availability
The amounts offered range from £2500 to £6000. The number of awards made each year depends on the funds available and on the quality of the applications but six to eight awards are usually given. The final selection is made in June/July of each year and awards are given out in September/October.
Please go to www.bfwg.org.uk and look under Scholarships to find out details of the application process and of eligibility. Only women doctoral students (PhD, DPhil or equivalent) at British universities (not Northern Ireland) who began full time doctoral studies between September 1st 2011 and October 31st 2012 (or the part time equivalent) are eligible to apply. Applicants are expected to be at least temporarily resident in Britain as BFWG are unable to accept distance learners overseas.
